Happy 3rd Birthday!! The Piano Parent Podcast is now 3 years old!! Our first episode aired August 2016 – Episode 000.
I listened to that first episode again and it’s not as bad as I was afraid it would be but I can definitely tell my editing skills have gotten much better.
I wouldn’t be where I am today if I hadn’t gotten started three years ago. The title graphic for this show is a picture of me when I was about three years old. Sometimes we think three years is such a long time but when I look at that little three-year-old me, I smile to realize all that she has to look forward to.

Because of this podcast I’ve gotten to talk about one of my favorite things with people from literally around the world. Episodes have been downloaded over 61,000 times by listeners around the globe.
In addition to the United States, where most of you catch the show, the top ten countries with listeners are Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Singapore, Italy, Germany, India, Ireland, France, and the Philippines. That is so mind boggling to me!
I will mostly likely never have the opportunity to visit your home in person so I’d love for you to do me a favor and share a photo from where you’re listening right now. Are you on a run in Spain? Riding a train in New Zealand? Listening to your piano kid practice in South Africa?

Thank you all for being on this journey with me. I feel like we are just getting started.
A quick update on Ray
Lesson 7: As you learn new things, make sure the foundational concepts are solid.
Ray is eager to move forward in his books. I’m happy to go at his pace but I also need to make sure he is solid on all the concepts he needs to know as he keeps progressing.
Lesson 8: As you lay a solid foundation, you build in the freedom to explore and create.
This week Ray learned the last two 5 finger patterns for his level. He learned C G D and A earlier in the summer so we rounded out the set with E and F. Now he’s using those exercises and his ear to play some of his ear songs and some of his favorite learning pieces in all six keys. As he reviews his known pieces in other keys, he is also getting creative with the rhythms and harmonies.
Lesson 9: It’s good to over plan and have more activities then you can get to.
